Molloy Stanner Games: Liverpool's Zavon Watkins set the national sophomore record in a solo run in the 1,000, winning in 2:29.20. He broke the record set by Sintayehu Taye, Cushing Academy (Mass.), of 2:29.60 in 2006. Watkins also leads the country this season.  Colin Savage, Liverpool, won the boys invitational mile with a time of 4:18.51.

 

Kellenberg's Kim McKay won the girls 1,000 in 2:57.72, the sixth-fastest time in the country this season. Sophomore Kelsey Margey of Harborfields also posted the country's third-fastest time in this season, outkicking Holy Trinity's Colleen Schmidt to win the girls invitational mile in 4:56.94. Schmidt finished second in 4:56.99.  Sara Sargent, PA, finished 3rd in 4:57.87 to make a statement for Millrose.  Phyllis Francis, Catherine McAuley, won the 600 meter run with a meet record and US#1 time of 1:32.14.  Patrick Farmer, St. Anthony's, won the 300 meter dash with a US#2 time of 34.22.  Liverpool, riding the high of Watkins record and Savage's win, took the 4x800 with a US#3 time of 7:56.42.  Chris Hunt Story  

 

Yale Track Classic: Kyle Plante, Colonie Central NY, won the girls 400 meter dash with a lightning fast 55.43 for US#1.  Shenendahowa NY  girls ran a US#1 11:52.36 Distance Medley Relay.  Hamden CT boys rolled to a US#1 10:16.94 to edge out Burnt Hills NY, who ran a US#2 10:19.98 in the boys DMR.  Shenendehowa and Shaker went 3-4 in the race to set US#3-4 times in the country with respective times of 10:22.92 and 10:23.13.  Emily Lipari, NY, won the 3000 meter run with a blazing US#1 mark of 9:44.85 while Chris Bendtsen, CT, won the boys 3k with a US#1 mark of 8:32.42 to edge out Ryan Laemel, CT, 8:33.40.  Francis Hernandez, Bishop Guertin NH, won the boys mile with a US#4 4:14.98.  Lindsay Crevoiserat, Glastonbury CT, won the girls mile with a 4:57.15 to narrowly edge Lizzie Predmore, Shenendehowa NY, 4:57.16.  Saratoga Springs NY won the girls 4x800 with a US#3 time of 9:22.63.  Conestoga PA finished second with a US#5 time of 9:26.83.  Conestoga PA boys won the 4x400 relay with a US#7 time of 3:24.57.  

 

 

University of Washington Indoor Preview: Shane Moskowitz, Central Kitsap WA, won the 3rd of 4 heats of the mile run with a time of 4:12.43, equalling the US#1 mark set earlier in the week by Pat Schellberg, Delbarton NJ.  Moskowitz also won the 3k with a US#1 time of 8:32.11.  Ashton Purvis, CA, won the 60 meter dash with a blazing US#1 7.43 and the 200 meter dash with an equally impressive US#1 23.86.  Kenny Krotzer, WA, rolled to a US#1 1:54.88 to win heat 3 of 4 in the 800 meter run.  Trinity Wilson, CA, took control of the 60 meter hurdles, winning with a US#1 time of 8.49.     

 

 

NJSIAA Relay Championships: Delbarton NJ won the non-public DMR section with a US#5 time of 10:29.13 off of an incredible 4:11 anchor leg by Pat Schellberg to come from 30 meters back for the win.  Schellberg later ran a 1:55.6 split in the SMR relay.  Story by Matt Shatkus

 

 

TFCAofGP Meet #6: Tom Hopkins, Haverford School PA, jumped to a US#3 in the long jump with a mark of 23-9.  James Weiss, Quakertown, won the pole vault with a big leap of 15-3.  Wallace Spencer, Malvern Prep, is back with a big 8.19 in the 60 meter hurdles to go along with his earlier US#5 8.17.  Nick Scarpello, Central Bucks West, went 8:47.84 for US#8 in the 3000 meter run.

 

 

Carl Lewis High School Invitational: Prezel Hardy, TX, won the 60 meter dash with a US#1 time of 6.75 to beat Kristen Mitchell, TX, whose 6.92 tied for US#6.  Already US#1 in the event, Sheriod Evans, TX, won the 200 with another US#5 time of 21.87.  India Daniels, TX, won the 60 meter dash with a tie for US#1 in 7.57 with 2nd-4th place hitting US#7-9.  Krystal Wynn went US#4 7.60 in the prelims, but did not run the final.  Kendall Hayes, TX, won the 60 meter hurdles with a US#3 time of 7.98.  A'Lexus Brannon, TX, won the long jump with a US#5 mark of 19-00.75.  Ryesa Whigham, Houston Sharpstown, lowered her own US#1 time to 8.62 in the semis and then ran 8.68 to win the final.  She ran a swift 8.71 60 meter hurdle prelims.  Clinton Collins, TX, won the 400 meter dash with a US#4 time of 49.04.  Cory McGee won the mile with a time of 4:57.10.  Mark Thomas, TX, already US#1 in the vault, went 16-00 to win over Seth Arnold, TX, also at 16-00.

 

 

Durham Striders HS Invitational: Jarrett Samuels, Vance, won the boys long jump with a US#3 mark of 23-9.  Steven Bell, SE Raleigh, went US#4 in the triple jump with a mark of 47-6.50.  Desmond Lawrence, South Durham, won the 55 meter dash with a US#5 time of 6.39.

 

 

 

Akron Jerome Fields Meet OPEN HS Welcome: Matt Hoty, OH, won the shot put with a US#2 mark of 62-7 and Dustin Brode, OH, finished second with a US#4 throw of 61-9.  Brode also won the weight throw with a US#3 throw of 66-1.  George Thomas, OH, finished second in the weight throw with a US#4 mark of 63-9.  Kendall Baisden, MI, already tied for US#1, won the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.63.  Baisden also added a US#5 time of 24.49 in winning the 200 meter dash.  Trotwood-Madison OH won the 4x200 meter relay with a US#3 time of 1:30.12.  Joey Uhle, OH, won the pole vault with a leap of 15-6 to tie for US#4.  Steve Machin, MI, won the a quick 60 meter hurdle race with a US#6 clocking of 8.27.  Herman Washington, OH, was second in 8.28 for US#7 and JaShawn Combs, OH, was third in 8.29 for US#8.

 

 

Doug Raymond Invitational: Blake Heriot, OH, won the 200 meter dash with a blazing fast 21.46 to take over the US#2 spot. 

 

 

Richey High School Early Bird Meet: Demoye Bogle, OH, ran a 6.39 to win the 55 meter dash and tie for US#5 in the event. Bogle also won the 55 meter hurdles, 200m dash and 400m dash.

 

 

New Hampshire Indoor Track League Meet #5 @ UNH: Jake Hawkins, Pinkerton, ran a US#1 1500 meter run with a winning time of 4:00.60.  Max Jacques, Salem, won the 55 meter dash with a US#1 time of 6.30.   

 

 

TSTCA Indoor Meet #2: Rachel Serafin, Hempfield PA, won the shot put with a US#5 mark of 42-4.

 

 

Virginia Weekend Preview: Big action in Virginia this weekend. 
 

Suffolk Stars Invite VA: Anthony Kostelac 1:53.3 4x800 anchor makes up 14 seconds to win 4x800 for Albemarle! 6:09 - Grassfield anchor received baton - 6:22 - Kostelac received baton. For complete coverage, including a video of his anchor leg, click here.  Justin Hunter, Ocean Lakes VA, rocked a US#2 mark in the boys long jump with a 23-11.  Drew Paisley, Ocean Lakes VA, won the 3200 with a US#5 time of 9:21.34, outdistancing Albermarle's Anthony Kostelac, 9:37.40.  Joel Coleman, Oscar Smith VA, won the 500 meter dash with a US#5 mark of 1:05.98.  Amanda Smith, Grassfield VA, won the girls 500 with a US#5 time of 1:16.79.  Current Virginia state leader Daniel McFadden, a junior from Heritage High School in Newport News, lowered his US top 10 performance last with a US #5 7.48 clocking on Friday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton. Also joining McFadden among the US top 10 in day one action included Western Branch sophomore Tiffany Ellick taking the girls 55 meter dash finals in a US #7 clocking of 7.07. Western Branch girls have a remarkable total of 3 girls currently ranked among the top 15 in the nation including Keilah Tyson at US #4 7.04, Ellick at US #7 7.07, and Taranisha Taylor at US #15 7.15. Ellick had two US top 10 performances in the meet including a runner-up US #8 mark of 38'6" in the triple jump. Thomas Dale junior Siobhan Ford-Holland won the event with a season best leap of 38'9.50", which ranks her 5th in the nation entering this weekend's meets. 

 

 

Fred Hardy Invitational: Cameron Overstreet, Atlee VA, won the girls pole vault with a tie for US#4 at 12-00.

 

  

Liberty Flames HS Invitational VA:

 

The Stevens continue to rock with US#1-2 1000's in a rocking race.  Joanna won with a US#1 2:55.80 with Kathleen second with a US#2 2:56.87.  Teammate Hannah Brown finished third with a US#4 time of 2:57.36.  Myah Hicks, Thomas Edison VA, was 4th with a US#8 2:57.94.  Joanna then ran a solo 10:29.13 to win the 3200 meter run!!

Fastest unconverted 1600 performances of the year behind the top 2 converted mile times from Hispanic Games. On a flat track. Splits were 72 - 76 (2:28) - 75 (3:43) - 70 (4:53 )

 

 

George Carter (Blacksburg) edged US 3200 leader Chris Foley of Chantilly with Carter timed at 4:19.86 and Foley at 4:20.33. US 1000 leader Cody Snyder of Lee-Davis was third (4:23)...but never really in the race. Negative split race for Carter and Foley went 67 - 65 (2:12) - 63 (3:16) - 63 (4:19).

Lizzie Powell, Virginia's defending 3A state champion in the pole vault and more importantly, a cancer survivor, made her triumphant return to high school track & field on Friday in her first meet back after learning she had cancer following last May's outdoor state meet.

Millrose Games Trials:   Pat Schellberg, Delbarton School, blazed a US#1 4:12.43 in the Mile run to punch his ticket to the Millrose Mile.  Marco Bertoloti, Fort Washington, was 2nd with a time of 4:19.52.  Benjamin Cardoza lights up the track with a US#1 4x400 meter relay time of 3:50.94 in the PSAL race.  Photo by Matt Shatkus Medgar Evers finished 2nd with a US#3 time of 3:54.35.  Columbia girls won the NJ Suburban 4x400 with a US#2 time of 3:54.24.  Columbia boys also won the NJ Suburban 4x400 with a time of 3:24.04.  Newburgh boys won the Rock 4x400 with a US#3 time of 3:21.99 while Newburgh girls won their race with a time of 3:57.66.  Suffern was just back in 3:59.24.  Boys and Girls won the PSAL boys 4x400 with a time of 3:24.61.  Hayley McMahon, Arlington, won the Mile, earning a trip to MSG with a time of 4:59.90, edging out Meg Ryan, Fairfield Warde, 5:02.71.  Brentwood won the Suffolk County girls 4x400 with a time of 3:58.64.  Half Hollow Hills West won the boys Suffolk County 4x400 with a time of 3:26.36. James Hall, Beacon, won the boys weight throw with a mark of 62-9.  Karen Henning, St. Anthony's, won the girls weight throw with a mark of 50-9.  Saint Anthony's won the CHSAA 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:01.02.  Saint Anthony's won the girls CHSAA 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:58.32.  Westbury boys won the Nassau County 4x400 with a time of 3:25.62.  Manhasset girls won the Nassau County 4x400 with a time of 3:59.58.  Mt. 67th Harford Public Invitational: Lindsay Crevoiserat, Glastonbury, won the girls 1000 meter run with a US#2 time of 2:57.47. 

 

 

MIAA/IAAM Championships: Kristen Brown, MD, won the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.14, tie for US#7.  George Chambers, MD, won the 300 meter dash with a time of 35.18 for US#6.

 

 

Frederick County Championships: Erick Artusio, MD, won the pole vault with a US#7 mark of 15-3.

 

 

DCIAA Invitational Indoor Meet: William Ledder, Gonzaga, won the boys 1000 meter run with a US#9 time of 2:33.22.

 

 

 

Kutztown High School Invitational:  Natasha McClaren, East Stroudsburg North PA, won the triple jump with a US#6 mark of 38-9.25.  She also won the high jump with a 5-6.
